Thai food is known for its balance of the four fundamental taste senses: sweet, sour, salty and bitter. Thai food reflects influences from China and India. Rice and noodles are the principle starches and fish sauce and shrimp paste are essential condiments. Other ingredients typical of the region include lemon grass, coconut milk, ginger, galangal (a rhizome of plants in the ginger family but with little similarity in taste to common ginger) and chiles.
Popular dishes are Khao phat, rice with chicken, beef, shrimp, pork, crab, coconut or pineapple; Mee krob, crispy noodles; Phat thai, rice noodles pan fried with fish sauce, sugar, lime juice or tamarind pulp, chopped peanuts, and egg combined with chicken, seafood, or tofu; Tom yam goong, spicy prawn soup.
Josée planned and prepared tonight's Thai menu with the help of Supavan.
